What Do I Need to Do to Track My Email Opens and Clicks?
This tutorial assumes that you already have an account with G-Lock Analytics. If you don’t have an account yet, you can signup here.
Follow the steps below to start using G-Lock Analytics:
Step 1. Upload the Redirect Script to Your Web Site.
To use G-Lock Analytics email tracking service, you must upload the redirect script to a web site that is up and running and open in the browser. Typically it can be your web site where you run your online business. If you do not have a web site, you won’t be able to use G-Lock Analytics.
Login to your account, go to “Account” and download the redirect script. Download the r.php, r.asp or r.aspx file depending on your web site.
Upload the redirect script to your website.
You can upload the r.php, r.asp or r.aspx file to the root directory on your server. Example:
You’ll use the http://www.yourdomain.com/r.php as the redirect script URL when creating your campaign.
Or you can create a folder on your server, for example, http://www.yourdomain.com/c/, rename the r.php (r.asp or r.aspx) file into the index.php (index.asp or index.aspx) and upload the index.php file to http://www.yourdomain.com/c/ folder.
In this case you enter http://www.yourdomain.com/c/ as the redirect script URL when creating the campaign.
Step 2. Add Campaign to Your Account.
A campaign is your email message with tracking code and links. Tracking reports for this email message will be stored in the campaign.
When adding a campaign, type the URL of the redirect script on your site in order tracking links contain your own domain. Type either http://www.yourdomain.com/r.php orhttp://www.yourdomain.com/c/ depending on to which folder you uploaded the redirect script.
Step 3. Add Tracking Code and Links to the Email Message.
Copy the tracking code and paste it into the message source.
Add your regular links and wait until the system converts them into the tracking links. Copy the tracking links and use them in your email instead of regular links.
Send the email with the tracking code and links.
When the recipients open the email and click on the links, you will see tracking statistics in the campaign. Login to your account and click on the campaign name. Use the left side menu to view tracking reports.
